Francis I. Gomes

Mr. Francis I. Gomes, age 64, a resident of Andalusia and a native of Evergreen, passed away Fri., Oct. 2, 2015, in Opp after a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., Oct. 6, 2015, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Keahey Funeral Home will direct. The Rev. Virgil Adams will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Keahey Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, who was also his high school sweetheart, Mary Gomes, of Andalusia; his son, Christopher Heath Gomes of Wiggins, Miss.; daughters, Stacey (Kevin) Inman of Opp and Heather Gomes of Ohio; his sister, Elaine Sims of Castleberry; six grandchildren, Kaylynn Coleman, Cassie Gomes, Dalton Gomes, Quint Inman, Ethan Inman, and Mason Inman nieces, Rachel DeLoach and Michelle Nelson; and nephews, Robert Neeley and Jeremy Sims.

He also is survived by his beloved 19 bird dogs and a special canine baby, Puffer.

Mr. Gomes retired a SMSGT in the Army after 22 years of service. He then served another 15 years as an Army recruiter. He loved to fish and hunt, especially quail. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was a huge fan of Alabama football.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or any Veterans Project.

 

Bobby Pierce

Mr. Bobby Pierce of Opp passed away Fri., Oct. 2, 2015, in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Keahey Funeral Home of Lockhart.

 

Larry Edward Smith

Sgt. Larry Edward Smith, age 46, of Andalusia died Wed., Sept. 30, 2015, in an Opp hospital. Sgt. Smith was a deputy with the Covington County Sheriff’s office and had been with the sheriff’s department for the past seven years. Before that Sgt. Smith had worked with the Lockhart Police Department and the Opp Police Department.

Funeral services for Sgt. Smith will be held today, Sat., Oct. 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. The Rev. Glenn Vaughn and the Rev. Steve Smith will officiate. Interment will be in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Curry Smith of Andalusia; a daughter, Kayla Smith, and a stepson, Clayton Sawyer, both of Andalusia; his mother, Dorothy Smith of Brundidge; two brothers, Steve (Angie) Smith of Dothan and Patrick (Anna Tindall), also of Dothan; his in-laws Robert and Patricia Curry of Andalusia, and several nieces and nephews.

The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

 

Bobby D. Chesser

Mr. Bobby D. Chesser, age 80, of Red Level passed away Wed., Sept. 30, 2015, in a Montgomery hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sat., Oct. 3, 2015, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. Minister Scott Penn will officiate. Special music will be provided by Alan Lindsey.

Interment will follow in the Mott Church of Christ Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Earlene Chesser of Red Level; daughters, Mescilla (Gary) Lawson of Brewton and Midian (Jr.) Curry of Selma; brothers, Carroll (Lynda) Chesser of Evergreen and Ken (Melissa) Chesser of Georgiana; sisters, Yvonne Smith of Daphne, Betty Joyce (Don) Rhyne of Birmingham, and Linda (Jerry) Bassett of Montgomery; two grandchildren, Kim (Josh) Roberson of Woodstock, Ga., and Hobson (Marguerite) Curry of Selma; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Whitt and Foster Curry of Selma, and Aiden Roberson of Woodstock, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Authur and Eunice Kervin Chesser; brothers, Griel Chesser and Morris T. Chesser; and a sister, Wilma Dean McIntyre.

Serving as pallbearers will be Marc McIntyre, Keith McIntyre, Joe Jones, Randy Jones, Travis Chesser, George L. Chesser, Winton Bush, Jeff Walker.

 

Richard T. Anderson

Mr. Richard T. Anderson, age 89, of Andalusia passed away Thurs., Oct. 1, 2015 in the Opp hospital.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. today, Sat., Oct. 3, 2015, at Stone Lake Gardens with military honors and Keahey Funeral Home directing. Minister Arthur Hornsby, the Rev. Jim Ingram and the Rev. Johnny Jones will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Keahey Funeral Home until time to depart to the cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jayne Anderson, Andalusia; sons, Chris Blatz of Andalusia and Temple (Jenny) Anderson of Opelika; daughter, Myriam Anderson of Virginia; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Anderson.

Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.
