Cake contest added to fair; $500 in prizes

Prizes totaling $500 will be awarded in a cake decorating contest – a new attraction at the Kiwanis Covington County Fair.
The contest is set for 3:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 17. Cake decorators should have their cakes at the fair by noon, and set up by 2:30 p.m. Those who enter will receive an admission ticket to the fair.
Cakes must highlight the theme “Fun at the Fair,” and the winner will be announced at 4:30 p.m. All entries must fit within a 28-inch square space. There will be two cakes displayed per six-foot table.
Cakes will be judged on taste; originality and creativity; use of the theme; precision of technique; and structure and support.
There is a $20 registration fee.
The first place winner will receive $250; second place, $150; and third place, $100.
