The Andalusia Junior Woman’s Club is challenging cooks who have a good chili recipe to put their specialty to a taste test in a chili cook-off that will be part of the group’s first Fall Festival.
“Cooks will pay $10 to enter their chili in the contest,” publicity chairwoman Lauren Maynor said. “We’ll have judges to decide the best chili. But the public can pay $5 for a ticket, and they can try all of the recipes, as long as they last.”
“There are so many different kinds of chili,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of interest, but only a few have registered so far.”
Electricity will be available for those who want to keep their chili warm in a crockpot, she said. AJWC is accepting chili registration forms until Oct. 12.
The Fall Festival also will include a costume contest, a pumpkin patch, cake walk and free games for children.
There are three age divisions in the costume contest, Maynor said. Children may enter for $5, and their costumes will be judged with prizes for the winners. Age categories are 0-3, 4-7, and 8-10.
Costumes ranging from cute to scare are welcome, she said.
“Anything goes.”
Children also can paint a pumpkin, or purchase one to take home.
There is no admission fee, and there will be free children’s games.
A cake walk also is planned.
“We have a committee handling all the caking and baking, she said, adding that the club expects to have “tons of cakes.”
