Shelter dogs up for adoption during pet event

The Andalusia Animal Shelter will have two dogs up for adoption at the pet appreciation day at Tractor Supply Saturday.
Kayla Cleland of the Animal Shelter said that Buster, a 2-year-old yellow lab will be up for adoption.
“He loves water and loves kids and gets along with other dogs,” she said.
Additionally, they will have a 12-week-old black lab up for adoption.
Why adopt a shelter pet, you may ask?
“Shelters have all shapes and sizes of lovable mutts, purebreds, all-American cats, puppies and kittens, adolescents and seniors,” she said. “Your chances of finding a wonderful companion who matches your lifestyle, family and home are excellent.”
Shelter officials suggest those who want to get new pets utilize the shelter.
“Shelter dogs need homes more than backyard breeders, puppy mills and pet stores need money,” Cleland said. “Without people adopting, fostering, rescuing, donating and educating a lot more of shelter dogs and cats would be euthanized.”
Since January, the Andalusia Animal Shelter has had 72 adoptions and sent 46 to rescues. Those rescues are in places such as Rhode Island, New Jersey and Chicago.
The event on Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Tractor Supply.
