The Andalusia Board of Education on Monday approved a five-year capital plan that calls for $3.5 million in improvements at Andalusia High School, as well as work at AES and the central office.

Superintendent Ted Watson said the state requires local systems to submit capital plans each September.

“If you look at this, you’ll probably say, ‘Wow. All of these things aren’t gonna happen,’ ” he said.

The projects, are, however, he said, in order of importance.

“The priorities are fairly well there,” Watson said.

The list includes:

• $500,000 in renovations at AHS in 2016.

• $100,000 for a new roof at AES in 2017.

• $1 million at AHS in 2018 for the auditorium.

• $2 million at AHS in 2019 for improvements and construction at the stadium.

• $50,000 at the board’s offices in 2020.

Watson said the plan should dovetail with fundraising plans by a recently formed Public Educational Building Authority. The group aims to raise money for sports facilities and the auditorium.
