Rabren takes top spot in first collegiate tournament

Brooks Rabren took home the championship in his first collegiate golf tournament at this week’s Hardee’s/ Wounded Warrior Collegiate Players Championship at the Perdido Bay Golf Club in Pensacola, Fla.

The tournament was about of the Southeastern Collegiate Tour, which allows collegiate golfers to compete in highly competitive tournaments against collegiate golfers. The tournament allows golfers to play in events that are set up to mimic professional tour style events.

Rabren, who signed a golf scholarship with the University of South Alabama, competed with players from the University of West Florida, IUPU- Ft. Wayne, Presbyterian College, William Carey University, University of Louisiana Lafayette, Carson Newman University, Valdosta State University, Oglethorpe University, Thomasville University, Lee University, University of Florida, Florida Tech University, University of Arkansas Monticello, Darton State College, Berry College, Mississippi College and Tallahassee Community College.

In the first round of the tournament Rabren shot 1-over-par (73), and was down by three strokes to West Florida’s Bryce Geraghty and William Carey’s Connor Cavin.

Rabren turned it on during the second round, and blistered the competition with a 3-under-par (69) round that gave him a one-stroke advantage over Cavin and West Florida’s Henry Westmoreland heading into the third and final round.

In the final round, Rabren shot 1-over-par (73) to earn a one-stroke victory over Geraghty and Westmoreland.

Rabren’s South Alabama teammate, Jason Mendel, finished with rounds of 74-79-76 to garner a two-way tie for 13th place with West Florida’s Christian Bosso.
