Despite rumors to the contrary, Opp Assistant Police Chief Kevin Chance said there is no active shooter in Opp.

Chance said somebody called into the police department and thought someone had fired at them.

“Upon officers and investigators arrival, we don’t know what caused the corner piece of the back glass to fall out,” Chance said. “There’s no evidence showing that it was from a weapon being fired at the vehicle. There’s no lead, and nothing was present at the scene that suggested somebody fired a weapon at it.”

Chance said the definition of an active shooter is one who is moving from one location to another and firing at the same time.
