County BOE takes up personnel issues

The Covington County Board of Education approved 25 personnel items at its special-called meeting Tuesday night.
The board:
• accepted the resignation of Beth Shepard Dean as career coach with Covington County Schools effective at the end of the school year. She previously had been hired on an emergency status.
• hired Dean as career coach with Covington County Schools effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• hired Joy Sowards as music teacher with Covington County Schools effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• accepted the resignation of Dameko Thrash as janitor at Florala High School effective June 30;
• accepted the resignation of Beverly K. Geohagan as secretary/bookkeeper at FHS effective June 30. This position was an emergency hire;
• hired Geohagan as secretary/bookkeeper at FHS effective July 1;
• accepted the resignation of Jessica E. Bush as elementary teacher at Pleasant Home School effective at the end of the school year;
• accepted the resignation of Chris N. Caldwell as agriscience teacher/cooperative education coordinator at PHS effective at the end of the school year;
• approved a letter of intent from Heather Larae Newman to return to Red Level Elementary School as elementary teacher for the 2015-2016 school year;
• accepted the resignation of David Godwin as social science teacher/coach at RLHS effective at the end of the school year;
• accepted the resignation of David Earl Stroud as bus driver at RLHS effective at the end of the school year;
• hired Stroud as custodian at RLHS effective July 1;
• hired Michael Shane Cook as bus driver at RLHS effective at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year;
• accepted the resignation of Courtney Dianne Johnson as intervention teacher at Straughn Elementary School effective at the end of the school year;
• accepted the resignation of Garrett Evan Windham as instructional aide at SES effective at the end of the school year;
• accepted the resignation of Jim Bedsole as social science teacher at Straughn Middle School effective at the end of the school year;
• hired Samantha Lumpkin Carroll as special education teacher at SMS effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• hired Megan Alexa Ford as English language arts teacher at SMS effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• approved the transfer of Marci Ann Farley from elementary teacher at SES to English language arts teacher at SMS effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• approved the transfer of Megan Pinckard from paraprofessional at SES to paraprofessional at SMS effective Aug. 10, 2015;
• approved the transfer of Gail Lloyd Wheeler at her request from special education aide/bus driver at SMS to bus driver at SHS effective at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year;
• accepted the resignation of Bill R. Wilson Jr. as assistant principal at SHS effective at the end of the school year;
• approved the transfer of Sharon K. Driver as English teacher at SMS to English teacher at SHS effective Aug. 10, 2015; and,
• approved the transfer of Timothy Scott Gafford as general social science teacher at SHS to general social science teacher/physical education teacher at Fleeta Junior High School effective Aug. 10, 2015.
In other non-related business, the board:
• agreed to bid milk/ice cream; and,
• approved the extension of the 2013 bread bid contract with Earthgrains Baking Co. Inc for an additional year beginning Aug. 1, 2015 through July 31, 2016.
