Opp High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian credited their families with pushing them to success.

Valedictorian Keene Wyatt said he’s always striven to do his best, especially in school.

“My parents, they have taught me a lot and have always supported me,” he said of who has pushed him the farthest.

Salutatorian Christian Rhodes said she always tries her best in everything for which she is involved.

“All of my family, but especially my daddy (have pushed me) because he believes in me and wants the best for me,” she said.

Both Wyatt and Rhodes will graduate tonight with 4.3 GPAs.

Rhodes said that she knew she’d finish second to Wyatt after the 10th grade and said they encouraged each other along the way.

After graduation the pair will part ways.

Rhodes will attend LBWCC for two years and then plans to transfer to Auburn, where she plans to major in engineering.

“I love math,” she said.

She earned a honors program scholarship and two foundation scholarships to LBWCC.

Wyatt will attend Troy University, where he plans to study business and possibly accounting.

He earned the Troy Millennium Scholarship and Foundation Scholarship.

Rhodes was a member of Mu Alpha Theta and Beta Club. She also participated in Peer Helpers, Ambassadors, SGA, and Diamond Dolls during her high school career.

Wyatt was a member of the FBLA, Ambassador, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club and OHS tennis.

Wyatt is the son of Judy and Ken Wyatt, and Rhodes is the daughter of Jeff and Alison Rhodes.
