Lady Tigers win 2 in Elba

Straughn started strong in Elba’s Tune Up tournament with a 7-5 win over Carroll-Ozark, and a 6-1 victory over Goshen on Friday.

 

Brentley Armstrong put the Lady Tigers up in the top first inning with a single to left field that plated Katelyn Kinsaul from third.

 

Hayden Willis gave the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead when she drove in Armstrong with a single.

 

Carroll went up 5-2 in the bottom of the second off four walks and three hits, but the Tigers wouldn’t allow the lead to stand for long.

 

Kinsaul led off with a single, and then used her wheels to steal second then scored off an error a few pitches later to make the score 5-3.

 

Armstrong then made it a one-run game by driving in Molly Stewart with a single to left field.

 

Kristen Peavey tied the contest up with a sacrifice that plated Armstrong from third.

 

Back-to-back walks to Willis and Paige Taylor set up a two-run double from Colby Adams that gave the Lady Tigers a 7-5 lead.

 

Willis replaced Armstrong in the pitching circle in the bottom of the third, and struck out two batters on her way to closing out the game for the Lady Tigers.

 

Armstrong and Adams led the way for the Lady Tigers with two RBIs each.

 

In game two against Goshen, the Lady Tigers once again took an early lead and held on for the win.

 

In the bottom of the second, Willis, Taylor and Jacie Williamson each reached to load up the bases for Adams who then drove in Willis and Taylor to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

 

Kinsaul gave the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead by driving in Adams with a ground out to second.

 

Stewart extended the Lady Tigers’ lead to 4-0 with a single to left field that drove in Caroline Fussell from third.

 

Goshen trimmed the lead to 4-1 when Garrett scored on a ground ball from Warrick that was misplayed by Lady Tigers’ pitcher Willis.

 

Kinsaul put the Lady Tigers back up by four runs with double to center field that scored Adams from second. Kinsaul stole home to give the Lady Tigers a 6-1 lead going in to the fifth inning.

 

Willis shut down Goshen in the top of the fifth inning to secure the Lady Tigers’ victory.
