Cale Pierce pitched a two-hit shutout to help Opp improve to 2-0 in Butch Youman Memorial baseball tournament with a 5-0 win over Brantley on Tuesday.
OHS cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning when Pierce led off with a no-doubt solo bomb over the fence in left.
Parker Bracke knocked in Gunter Wise from first, and then Britt Buckelew got an RBI single to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
Pierce was also the starting pitcher for the Bobcats, and he did good job of keeping the BHS hitters off balance.
The Bulldogs threatened with runners in bottom of the second and third innings, but Pierce stood steadfast and kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
In the top of the fifth, Tyler Schively drove in Walker Messer with a double to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.
Wise drove in Schively two batters later for the Bobcats’ final run of the contest.
Pierce remained sharp on the mound in the bottom of the fifth, and struck out the Bulldog batters in order.
The Bulldogs then went three up and three down in the bottom of the sixth as well, and then Pierce shut down the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh for a complete game shutout victory.
“Cale Pierce pitched great,” Bobcats’ head coach Mike Cassady said. “We are starting some young guys this week, and they have done a great job. They want to be out here playing and they are just having fun. We put together some good at-bats, and we are executing well on offense.”
