0318 davis mugA true southern lady of her generation, she devoted her life to supporting and caring for her husband, Dr. Earl F. Davis, their children and their home. Peggy, a home economics major at Auburn University, had the gift of hospitality, which shined brightly as she welcomed friends and guests into the home. One of her fondest memories was the Davis house being used as a gathering place for her children and their friends, where Southern meals and desserts were always available for all to enjoy.

Known for her contagious sense of humor, Peggy was also loving, caring, patient, tactful and courageous; a woman of unwavering morals and strength. She loved being part of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and many activities. She often referred to herself as “The Chauffeur.”

Peggy grew up in church and was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She had a simple, but profound faith in Jesus Christ, which gave her strength and comfort, especially in her last days.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Pearl Foshee; her brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Janie Foshee; and her beloved husband of 52 years, Earl F. Davis. Survivors include her children, Lee (Angel) Davis of Watkinsville, Ga., Lisa Davis of Athens and Jay (Pippa Lee) Davis of Barnesville, Ga.; as well as her grandchildren, Megan (Andrew) Kumming, Haley Davis, Jackson Davis and Pippen Davis.

Visitation will be held on Sat., March 21, 2015, from 1-2 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605.

A graveside funeral service will be held at the adjacent Athens Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UGA Gifts Receivables, payable to UGAF c/o Earl Davis Chair of Taxation, 394 South Milledge, Athens, GA 30602 or Athens First United Methodist Church, http://athensfirstumc.org/giving/.
