Nearly 900 students attend annual youth weekend
A record crowd of students turned out for this weekend’s eighth annual Disciple Now (D-Now) retreat at Andalusia High School.
An estimated 850-900 students attended, with 25 churches from Andalusia, Opp, Red Level, Kinston and others from around the area represented.
“It went real well,” Carolina Baptist Church Pastor Garrett Davis said. “It was our best attended yet.”
Davis said the youth participated in several activities, including a time for music and messages. The weekend was also a mission project to help raise money for Sav-A-Life in Andalusia. The weekend raised more than $500.
Davis said a change drive was held.
“A lot of churches did activities throughout the community,” Davis said. “One baked bread and took it to different houses.”
Davis said a lot of churches did several things for the community.
Other than having D-Now to help raise funds for Sav-A-Life, Davis said the two-day weekend was held to bring students together to worship, adding that all of the rivalries between schools were set aside.
“This was held to get students to come together as a community,” he said. “There’s always that rivalry, but we laid those rivalries aside to come together as a group of believers of Jesus for a time of worship.”
