Megan Leigh Kelley
Miss Megan Leigh Kelley, age 19, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., Feb. 16, 2015, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Fri., Feb. 20, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Andalusia. The Rev. Josh Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends 5 -8 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 19, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Andalusia.
Megan was a gracious and kind daughter, sister, and friend to many. Born and reared in Andalusia, Megan had the astounding capacity to enjoy some of the simpler things that life has to offer: fishing, spending time with friends, watching football, and listening to country music. If anyone were to describe Megan to you they would have to comment on her glowing, infectious smile and sweet, joyful personality.
When Megan was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2013, she was about to begin her senior year of high school. The next year and a half would prove to be the most difficult experience her or her family had ever experienced. Despite the circumstances, Megan, or Maymay as she was known to friends and family, held tight to her faith in Christ. The inner joy and peace she received from God never ceased to flow from her, even in the darkest of times.
She will be remembered as grateful, kind, loving, and compassionate. Some words of advice she would like to offer are, “Be kind to everyone because you never know what they are going through.”
Survivors include her parents, Keith and Donna Nichols Kelley of Andalusia; her brother, Michael Kelley of Nashville; grandparents, Margaret Nichols of Gadsden, Ala., and Reidar and Gayle Opgaard of Newton, Ala.; great-grandmother, Lena Bell Morgan of Andalusia; uncles, Mike (Michelle) Nichols of Rome, Ga., and Bo Nichols of Gadsden; an aunt, Amy Simpson of Dothan; and numerous cousins.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to the Covington County Cancer Freeze and Meredith’s Miracles.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Nichols, Bo Nichols, Mike Nichols, Justin Walker, John Reid McGlamory and Reidar Opgaard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Andalusia High School Class of 2014.
