Straughn High School’s, standout senior running, Daryl George II signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday morning to play football at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, N.C.
George’s parents Angela and Daryl George Sr. joined their son to commemorate the special occasion. His younger brother, Allen George, was also there to show support.
“We feel like it is a great fit for him,” Angela said. “It’s a smaller school, and that means more opportunities for one-on-one time with professors. The professors actually get a chance to get to know the students.”
George finished his senior season at Straughn with 1,839 all-purpose yards, 1,559 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
“I feel like I’ve accomplished something,” George said. “A lot of guys have signed letters. That is the easy part. Now it’s time to put in the hard work.”
Along with playing football for the Saint Augustine Falcons, George said he would also have the opportunity to run track for the very school’s extremely successful team and coach George Williams.
Williams has lead the Falcons to 35 national championships including the 2014 and 2013 NCAA Division II National Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Williams has also coached 39 Olympians, including three gold medalists.
“We are very proud of him, and are very excited for him to have the opportunity to learn from a coach with his (Williams) reputation,” Angela said. “It will take some getting use to him being between 11 and 12 hours away now.”
George is set to enroll at Saint Augustine’s in August.
