Straughn outlasts Andalusia

The Straughn Tigers finished off the sweep of the Andalusia Bulldogs with a 53-45 victory in the varsity boys contest Friday night in Straughn.

 

The Bulldogs took an early 11-9 lead in the first period. Trevor Parker and Devante Jackson had 4 points each in the first for the Bulldogs. Kendarius Townsend added a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs to kick off the game. Brice Scott, Rollin Kinsaul, and Marshall Farley each hit a 3-pointer for the Tigers in the first.

 

The Tigers tied the game up heading into halftime 18-18. Johnathan Driver banked in a 3-pointer to tie the game up at the buzzer. Tucker Lawless had 4 points for the Tigers. Jackson had 5 points for the Bulldogs including a long 3-pointer.

 

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the third quarter, but by the end of three the Tigers mounted a 32-26 advantage. Farley had 8 points including a pair of 3-pointers.  Lawless, who was 0-for-7 from behind the arc in the first half, nailed a pair of 3-pointers in the third period. B.J. Anderson had 3 points for the Bulldogs, and Parker added 2 points.

 

Both teams got hot in the fourth period, but the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 21-19 in the final stanza. Jackson and Anderson had 6 points each for the Bulldogs. Kinsaul put the Tigers on his back in the final period, scoring 12 points to help guide the Tigers to a 53-45 area win over the Bulldogs.

 

Kinsaul led the Tigers with 15 points, and Farley finished the night with 14 points.

 

Jackson led all scorers with 16 points. Parker and Anderson each finished with 9 points for the Bulldogs.

 

Both teams are now 1-1 in area play.

 

Straughn will be back in action tonight when they travel to Opp to take on the Bobcats at 3:30 p.m.

 

Andalusia plays next on Jan. 13, when the travel to Headland for the third area contest of the season.
