The Pleasant Home Eagles came up just short of the Laurel Hill Hoboes Saturday in the Alabama/Florida Shootout in Pleasant Home losing 42-31.

Both teams had trouble getting points on the board in the first period, and the game was tied 6-6 at the end of one. The Eagles got 2 points each from Robert Scott, Tanner Veasey and Alex Myrick in the first.

The Hoboes turned it on in the second period, and were up 24-13 at halftime. Veasey had 3 more points for the Eagles. Scott and Troy Fantroy pitched in 2 points each. The Eagles never quit fighting, but found points hard to come to by the entire game.

In the third period, the Eagles got 5 points out of Fantroy, but the Eagles just couldn’t gain any ground on the Hoboes. At the end of the third, the Hoboes were up 31-20.

The Eagles still kept fighting in the fourth, but the Hoboes matched the Eagles in points again to hold on for a 42-31 victory, Fantroy had his best period of the game with 8 points in the final stanza.

Fantroy led the Eagles with 15 points. Scott and Veasey each had 7 points for the Eagles.

The Eagles will travel today to Kinston to face the Bulldogs in the first area game of the season.
