The Opp Bobcats (9-3) are gearing up for third-round gridiron action against the top-ranked Gordo Green Wave (13-0) Friday night in Opp.

The Bobcats are coming off a 33-17 victory in round two over the Slocomb Red Tops. The Wave defeated the Pike County Bulldogs 21-20 in round two.

With only eight teams remaining in the playoffs, the Bobcats are looking to make it to the final four teams in class 3A. This is the farthest the Bobcats have ever made it in the playoffs.

“We have a tough match-up this week going up against the undefeated No.1 team in the state,” Bobcats’ coach Brent Hill said. “This deep in the playoffs though, you know you are going to have a tough match-up each week.”

Hill said that the Wave will try to run the football, and control the clock.

“Offensively, they are going to run a two-tight I, some twins over, and then they will get into some shotgun stuff. We feel like the No. 1 thing they are going to try to do is run the ball with anything from belly G to what we call power G off tackle, counter and counter bootleg. Then when they get in the spread they will try to throw the ball,” Hill said. “We want to get them into shotgun and make them try to throw the ball.”

For the Bobcats’ offense Hill said they will continue to play the same style offense that has gotten them this far, which will be to run no huddle and try to get up and down the field quickly.

“Defensively, they have been a 3-4 cover four team, and haven’t really had to do much else,” Hill said. “For us on offense we have talked about we have to be focused, and not turn the ball over. We have had great energy this week and it’s an exciting opportunity for us; almost like T.R. Miller was. We are just excited to play a good football team.”

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Opp’s Channell-Lee Stadium.
