Drug Task Force Agents halted a major meth operation Thursday in Babbie.
DTF Commander Mark Odom said agents had received information about the operation for several months and described it as a large, clandestine lab on Bowers Road.
DTF agent Greg Jackson received another tip on Thursday and was able to secure a search warrant for the home and property of Gary Lavel Williamson.
The warrant was served and more than 500 grams of meth oil, finished meth product, several used one-product meth cooks, as well as chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and paraphernalia used for ingestion of the drug were found.
Williamson was found near his residence and was taken into custody.
He has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled substance first-degree, possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
Williamson, 54, is being held in the Covington County Jail on an $840,000 bond.
The Covington County Sheriff’s Department, Opp Police Department and ABC agents and the District Attorney’s office helped in the case.
“It is rewarding when law enforcement agencies work together and even more rewarding when that teamwork results in drugs being taken off the streets of Covington County.”
