Events set to honor veterans

Local schools, communities and residents have many events planned to honor local veterans beginning today.
To kickoff the festivities, Fleeta Jr. High School will hold a Veterans Day assembly this morning at 9 in the school gymnasium.
Veterans and active service members are invited to join FJHS for breakfast at 8 a.m., in the school library.
Lt. Col. James “Jim” Lawrence will be the guest speaker at the Pleasant Home High School program at 10 a.m. on Friday, and also at the Florala High School program on Monday at 12:45 p.m.
Also scheduled for Monday is the Red Level schools program at 8:30 a.m.
The 28th annual Veterans Program at the Andalusia Junior High School will begin at 1 p.m., in the AJHS gymnasium with guest speaker Maj. Chris Amos.
For Tuesday, the annual Andalusia Veterans Day parade will begin at 9 a.m., and a ceremony will immediately follow at the Veteran’s Memorial Park. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Walter D. Givhan.
The Three Notch Museum on historic Central Street will be open immediately following the Veterans Day program, and a variety of military artifacts will be on display.
A reception will follow the program in the cafeteria.
Straughn High School will hold its program at 10:25 a.m., on Wed., Nov. 12.
