PHS, SHS advance to Elite 8

The Straughn Lady Tigers (26-20) and the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles (26-5) have both qualified for the AHSAA Elite Eight state tournament this week in Birmingham.
The Lady Tigers qualified for the tournament by beating Montevallo in three sets 25-19, 25-12 and 25-16. The Lady Tigers had the opportunity to elevate their seed in the Elite Eight but failed to do so losing to St. James and UMS-Wright.
The Lady Tigers will be the No. 4 seed for the South and will play the North’s No.1 seed Danville (48-11) Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the class 4A Elite Eight.
The Lady Eagles rolled through the Super Regional tournament, earning the Super Regional Championship as well as the South’s No. 1 seed for the Elite Eight in class 1A.
The Lady Eagles beat Linden in three sets 25-10, 25-7 and 25-13 to earn a spot in the Elite Eight, but they didn’t stop there. The Lady Eagles went on to beat Ragland in three sets 25-12, 25-14 and 25-16 to clinch a spot in the Super Regional championship game, were they would face Isabella.
The championship match went five sets with the Lady Eagles beating Isabella three sets to two. The Lady Eagles lost the opening set 25-16, won the second set 25-25, won the third set 25-21, lost the fourth set 25-20 and won the final set 15-5.
The Lady Eagles will face the North’s No. 4 seed Spring Garden (24-22) on Wednesday at 8 a.m. in the first round of the class 1A Elite Eight.
