Red Level is vying to win its next two games as the Tigers visit Georgiana for their regular-season region finale.
Tigers head football coach David Godwin said GHS is by far, the most athletic team in Class 1A, Region 2.
“They’re big,” Godwin said., “They’ve got a lot of speed. They’ve got some dangerous kids. No. 10 (Jacquez Payton) is probably a Division 1 prospect, and he’s just a junior. It’ll be a challenge for us. If we play the way we have the last four weeks, we’ll be fine. We can play with anybody in the region. It’ll be good for us.”
Last week, the Tigers suffered a close 8-6 loss to Kinston.
When asked what a close loss does for the teams’ psychological benefit, Godwin said there were positives that came from the game.
“You never want to lose, but when you play as hard as you can and come out on the losing end, you have to leave it there and come out with a lot of positives,” he said. “We left there knowing that we played four quarters. We were excited because we realized that we can now play a four-quarter game.”
As far as the playoff race is concerned, if the Tigers win, then there are many scenarios that have to be thought of in order to determine who the No. 4 seed will be. RL sits at 1-4 in the region and as the sixth seed.
“All we can control is what we do,” Godwin said.
