Straughn’s Lady Tigers swept Elba and Geneva for senior night on Tuesday at home.
SHS beat Geneva 25-11, 25-10 in the first game of the tri-match and topped Elba 25-10, 25-7 in the second.
“We played hard,” Lady Tigers head volleyball coach Daniel Rodgers said. “We attacked well. I”m proud of my seniors and the leadership they’ve given.”
SHS senior Jacie Williamson had four each in aces and kills against GHS. Katelyn Kinsaul, another senior, had eight assists. Hannah Lawless chipped in four kills.
Straughn’s Courtney Rogers had six aces; Williamson had eight kills; Kinsaul had eight assists; and senior Paige Taylor had six aces.
Prior to their last match, the Lady Tigers held a senior recognition ceremony.
“Katelyn knows exactly what to say to encourage her teammates and help the team,” Rodgers said. “For example, she’ll tell somebody to forget about it and just play ball. She’s very positive.
“Paige has good eyes for the court. She’s able to see holes and she’s able to take advantage of what the other team does well. Paige also wills her team to do whatever it takes to win.”
On Williamson, Rodgers said she’s the perfect example of “how to lead by action.”
“She does anything she’s asked with a smile,” the coach said. “Jacie has the same demeanor, whether we’re up one or down two. She’s going to play the same.”
Rodgers said all of his seniors are “great leaders.”
In other action, Andalusia swept Ashford 3-0.
