The Star-News yesterday received several inquiries about its on-going circulation drive, which also benefits Meredith’s Miracles.
The newspaper contracted with a promotion company, which has hired four local people who are selling subscriptions by phone. A portion of each sale will go to Meredith’s Miracles, the local non-profit organization which provides assistance with non-medical expenses to families who need to travel outside of the local area for specialty care.
The callers are selling three-month subscriptions.
“We understand and applaud those local residents who wanted to make sure the campaign was legit,” publisher Michele Gerlach said. “The callers are working from our building. It has been interesting to listen each night. People have been courteous and receptive, and we appreciate them so much. ”
