Straughn suffered its first loss of the season in a 3-2 decision to New Brockton earlier tonight.
The Lady Tigers held a 25-21, 18-25, 26-24 lead going into the fourth set, but the Lady Gamecocks bounced back to prevail 25-20, 15-7.
SHS head volleyball coach Daniel Rodgers said he was proud of the girls, but too many points were given to NBHS.
When asked if the girls were upset after the loss, Rodgers said the opposite was the case.
“They’re motivated,” he said. “They want to get better.”
“They made us earn everything,” Rodgers said. “Give all of the credit to New Brockton.”
Straughn’s Jacie Williamson had six aces and seven kills. Katelyn Kinsaul had four aces and three assists.
This loss put Straughn’s season record at 9-1 heading into Saturday’s round robin tournament at home.
In other volleyball action, Pleasant Home swept Opp in varsity action, 3-0. In JV play, Opp won 2-0; and the Lady Bobcats junior high team won 2-1.
