Opp Downtown Redevelopment Authority plans to add a few new events to this year’s Opp Fest, including a carnival.
“We haven’t had a carnival, and Opp Fest is in its 15th year,” DRA Chairman Tommie Norris said.
C&M Southern Midways, of Eastaboga, will provide the carnival rides.
Charles Haisch, co-owner of C&M, said they plan to bring the gravatron, dragon wagon and paratrooper.
Additionally, the iconic merry-go-round and ferris wheel will be provided.
“We’re going to have a pretty good variety of rides,” Haisch said. “We’ll fill it up.”
Vendor and sponsor numbers are also up, and a good turn out is expected, Norris said.
Haisch said that C&M will also bring food concessions, including cotton candy and funnel cakes.
“You can’t have a fair without funnel cakes,” he said.
The carnival starts Oct. 22 and will continue through to Opp Fest, which is Oct. 24-25.
In addition to the carnival, DRA plans to have a pumpkin-carving contest.
“This is a new event,” Norris said. “We already have people interested in the competition.”
The contest will have two age groups and cash prizes will be given to the top three places.
Live music Fri., Oct. 24, is set to feature The Springs, which was a huge hit at the 2013 Rattlesnake Rodeo, according to Norris.
“We have a lot of really good talent and some of them are local,” Norris said.
Saturday will feature Alabama artists Hunter Linzy, Ethan King, E-Town and Main Ingredients.
