Local karate class excels

Five Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students brought home first place awards from the International Karate Circuit’s Southern Open in Phenix City on Sept. 6.
All five competitors brought home first places in fighting, and the group as a whole finished with eight first places out of 15 total divisions entered. Each student competed in kata, weapons and fighting divisions.
Tournament results are below:
• Taj Patel — first place in brown belt fighting, and fourth place in brown belt kata and weapons;
• Dalton Spears — first place in brown belt fighting, fourth place in brown belt kata and third place in brown belt weapons;
• Kila Owens — first place in yellow belt fighting and kata, and third place in yellow belt weapons;
• Konner Owens — first place in yellow belt fighting and kata, and second place in yellow belt weapons; and,
• Landon Caldwell — first place in green belt fighting and kata, and third place in green belt weapons.
