Andalusia’s annual tournament is slated for Saturday

The weather’s going to be perfect for the Andalusia High School Softball Golf Tournament on Saturday at Evans Barnes Golf Course.

According to the National Weather Service out of Mobile, it’s going to be mostly sunny with a high of 95 degrees.

AHS softball coach Anthony Mikel said the annual tournament, which is in its 13th year, has grown progressively over the years.

“It’s been a continual thing,” Mikel said. “The parents enjoy it. I enjoy it.”

Monies raised from the softball team’s annual fundraiser go to purchase uniforms, equipment and a myriad of other things.

Mikel said he’s secured sponsors for each hole at the nine-hole course.

“We’re still working on a few who still want to purchase some,” he said. “We have several sponsors for this year.”

Mikel said he has secured somewhere around 50 sponsors for the tournament.

“I’ll have a few more for sure,” he said.

Mikel said all is working well and that he’s hoping that he can gave u to 20 teams competing in the two-man scramble. The cost for each team is $100.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Mikel said there are nine teams that have already signed up for the tournament.

Competitors can sign up the day of the tournament, Mikel said.

Tournament action starts at 8 a.m.

“If they’re going to play, we’d like to have them be there at around 7:40 because we’d love to start by 8,” Mikel said. “We’re going to have door prizes and prizes for the top two in each flight.”

Breakfast and lunch will be served at the tournament.
