The Covington County Board of Education voted unanimously to hire a new assistant principal at Pleasant Home School Thursday.

Pleasant Home native Amber Poole McKathan received the nod at the recommendation of Principal Craig Nichols.

“She was one of the only people locally that applied,” Nichols said. “But she taught math for me at Pleasant Home and we think she’ll be just a great addition to our staff.”

McKathan, a 2003 graduate of Pleasant Home, graduated from Auburn University in 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in science and secondary mathematics education. She also graduated from Troy University with a master of science degree in science and instructional leadership and administration in 2012.

“I have worked in the Covington County schools from 2007-2013 as a secondary math teacher and in 2013-14 as the Covington County schools career coach,” McKathan said. “I am invested in the Pleasant Home School and in the community.”

McKathan, who lives in the Pleasant Home community with her husband, Bo, and their two children, Blake and Adam, is a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church and said the children of the school, and the community as a whole, are her highest priority.

“I look forward to working with all of the Pleasant Home faculty, staff, students and parents,” she said. “I believe that students reach their highest potential in a very structured, but yet supportive school climate. I am very excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with the administration, teachers, and staff at Pleasant Home School to ensure all are supported and able to achieve their individual and organizational goals.”
