The United States’ men’s soccer team won despite a loss Thursday in the World Cup.

USA fell 1-0 to Germany in the last game of the group stage, but advanced to the Round of 16 after Portugal defeated Ghana, 2-1.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who spoiled the United State’s close win to the Portugese team on Sunday, which ended in a tie, scored the game-winner against Ghana, thus securing the Americans’ spot in the next round.

Because of the points system the WC uses for the group stage, the United States finished second in the group. Te top two from each advance.

The United States next plays Belgium on Tues., July 1, at 3 p.m.

The match will be broadcast on ESPN.
