Last week’s entertainment event for the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Foundation raised more than $33,000 for the non-profit organization that gives back to the college and provides scholarships for students.
“We are so excited at the support of our sponsors as well as the artists who participated in this year’s fundraiser to make it such a great success,” Foundation President Shannon Jackson said.
The amount raised last week through sponsorships, ticket sales and donations was $30,870. An additional $2,435 in proceeds from donated artwork in a silent auction held on the Andalusia campus raised the total to $33,305. Jackson said the money will make a positive impact on students attending LBW Community College.
“It is always encouraging to know that our community sees the benefits of LBWCC and also wants to be a part of such an incredible institution,” Jackson said. “Having an opportunity to host this year’s event at the Dixon Theater with quality entertainment like (comedian) Keith Alberstadt made the success of the night all the sweeter.”
Dr. Herb Riedel, LBWCC president, said the success of its supporting foundation is also important to LBW Community College and its students.
“We are proud of the LBWCC Foundation board members’ work and their efforts in raising funds for scholarships and other programs of the College,” he said. “The Foundation makes it possible for many students to attend college through scholarships, funded partially by events such as this. In addition, the Foundation funds a mini-grant program designed for faculty and staff to purchase items not available through institutional funding alone. We are grateful for their dedication to LBW and congratulate them on the successful 2014 event.”
