Twenty years to the day after Chuck and Shelia Faulkner became man and wife, the couple was once again pledging their lives to each other during a small ceremony on the Andalusia town square Wednesday.
“We had been talking about doing it,” Chuck Faulkner said. “But she decided to surprise me with it today, which is also her birthday.”
Chuck, originally from New York, said he met Shelia, an Opp native, while they both worked for a now-closed cabinet shop in Covington County.
“I proposed to her by the light of a Coke machine,” he said.
And, while the past two decades have had some of the “better” and some of the “worse” mentioned in the couple’s vows, Sheila said there is no one she would rather go through any of it with.
“We’ve been through a lot together,” she said. “I couldn’t find nobody no better. When he was made, the mold was broken.”
For Chuck, the feeling is very mutual.
“She’s about one of a kind” he said.
The Faulkners, who now reside in Andalusia, have one daughter, a late son and eight grandchildren.
