Brewton found itself on the winning end of two games as the 10U Cal Ripken All-Stars beat Andalusia 6-2 in the loser’s bracket elimination game and Opp 12-2 in four innings in the District 8 Championship earlier tonight.
With its win over Opp, Brewton forced a winner-take-all game tomorrow night at 6 for the district title.
For the championship game, the Bobcats couldn’t get any of their bats going because of Brewton pitcher Jackson Flores.
Flores threw a one-hitter and struck out eight while allowing no earned runs in four innings to get the win on the mound.
Brewton scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning before opening up the third with five runs for an 8-0 lead.
Three of the five runs in the third were scored on either passed balls or wild pitches.
Brewton added four runs in the bottom of the fourth on one hit.
Opp scored two runs in the fourth on a Dee two-run single.
In Brewton’s game against Andalusia, the visiting Tigers led 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Andalusia got on board when Griffin Kennedy scored on a suicide squeeze in the third to make it 6-1.
The Bulldogs had a chance to cut the lead in the fourth with bases loaded and two outs, but couldn’t get any runs across the board.
Brewton scored four runs in the second inning and added two in the top of the third.
Terrance Salter went 3-for-3 with three singles to lead Andalusia; Noah Whiddon and Kennedy had one hit each.
