Opp, county Majors split

Opp and Covington County split in Dixie Majors action Thursday night at Merchants Field in Opp.
Trailing 4-0 in game one, Opp scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to win 5-4. Covington County came back in game two by breaking a 1-1 tie in the third inning to claim a 3-2 victory.
Opp 5, Covington County 4 (Game 1)
The story of the first game came from right-handed pitcher Zach Ward.
Ward was throwing a no-hitter through the third inning, but it was ruined when Holt Hall hit a single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ward ended the game giving up three hits.
Opp’s Ethan Davis and Hall scored on errors in the fourth. In the fifth, the Bobcat majors added three runs on four hits.
John Bess and Jud Owens hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, and Russell Mosley walked to load the bases.
Quinton Maddox then hit a two-run single to tie it at 4-all.
DaKota King hit the game-winning RBI single.
Covington County led 4-0 after the first inning when Ward hit an RBI single to score Johnny Owens; Austin Worley hit a two-run double to score Ward and Beau Spivey; and Worley scored on Todd Wright’s RBI double.
Ward went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run; and Wright went 2-for-2 with a double to lead Covington County.
Covington County 3, Opp 2 (Game 2)
Covington County’s Hunter Odom allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven in five innings in the 3-2 victory over Opp.
CC drew blood first in the opening inning when Spivey hit in Brennan Head with a single.
The county team added another run in the third on an error, and took a two-run lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Dillon Jordan.
Opp scored one run each in the first an fifth innings.
Colt Harrell scored on Bess’ single in the first; and Bess scored on Cale Pierce’s single in the fifth.
Spivey went 2-for-2 to lead CC.
Bess went 3-for-3 with three singles to lead Opp.
