Andalusia’s Stingrays hit adversity right over the head Friday as they finished first in their first competitive swim meet in Troy.

After a 45-minute weather delay, the meet started and the Stingrays ended up tallying 2,618 points. Eufaula came in second with 2,368, Troy came in third with 1,464 and Dothan came in fourth with 1,001.

“I knew going into this meet with my group that they were pretty worn down after going through two difficult practices and an inter squad meet,” Stingrays coach Gavin Donaldson said. “I wanted to see how they would respond and handle being worn out and a little on the sore side. Respond they did.”

The group cranked out 35 personal best times, 26 state qualifying times and broke eight team records.

The following broke team records at Friday’s meet:

• BJ Donaldson in the 100-yard Individual Medley (IM) — 59.55 seconds; 50-yard butterfly — 27.26; and 50-yard backstroke — 27.67.

• Emma Younce — 100-yard IM — 1:08.45; and 50-yard breaststroke — 35.33.

• Mary Beth Baker — 50-yard freestyle — 27.06.

• Baker, Younce, Cali Fillmer and Elisabeth Younce in the Girls 200-yard Medley Relay — 2:09.10.

• Fillmer, Younce (2) and Baker in the girls 200-yard Freestyle Relay — 1:56.28.

In the younger group, personal best times were accomplished by Anna Grace Scott in the 25-yard backstroke; Ashley Parker in the 50-yard freestyle, backstroke and 100-yard freestyle; Anna Taylor in the 50-yard breaststroke and freestyle; Ava Bailey in the 100-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Breanna Bowman in the 50-yard freestyle; Annabelle Ezell in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Alex Browning in the 100-yard IM, 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard butterfly; Tyler Browning in the 50-yard backstroke freestyle; Josh Riley in the 100-yard IM; 50-yard freestyle, butterfly and backstroke; Aidan Vines in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle; West Parker in the 100-yard IM, 50-yard breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke; and Demetric Toney in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Alex Browning swam a state qualifying time in the 50-yard breaststroke; West Parker swam it in the 100-yard IM; and Ava Bailey swam it in the 100-yard IM.

The Stingrays will be hosting its next meet on Saturday at Cooper Pool. Warm ups are at 8:30 a.m. with the meet start time at 10.
