Twenty-four state-qualifying times were met by nine Andalusia Stingrays at their intersquad swim meet Tuesday night at Cooper Pool.

“This early in the season with that many state-qualifying times met could be a good sign of what this group is capable of accomplishing,” Stingrays coach Gavin Donaldson said. “Several of the other swimmers were close to state-qualifying times and will be able to close the gap over the next couple of weeks.”

The swimmers who swam state qualifying times were Cameron Woodard (100-yard individual medley (IM), 50-yard breaststroke and 50- yard backstroke), Ethan Gobea (100-yard IM), BJ Donaldson (100-yard IM, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly), Evie Younce (50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard backstroke), Grace Philpott (100-yard IM, 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard backstroke), Emma Younce (100-yard IM, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle), Mary Beth Baker (100-yard IM and 50-yard backstroke), Katrine Christensen (100-yard IM) and Cali Fillmer (100-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly).

The Stingrays held their annual intersquad meet to iron out the kinks before their regular season starts tomorrow night at Troy.

“The team got off to a good start with the intersquad meet of the summer season,” Donaldson said. “Despite the adversity of the cooler water temps and the limited practice time with what could be done with the swimmers over the last four weeks, I was pleased with the baseline times set in the meet.”

In addition to the state-qualifying times met, 17 personal best times were swam.
