Andalusia karate students bring home awards

Six Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students competed in the USYKA Traditional Karate tournament in Adamsville on Saturday.
There, the students competed in weapons, forms and fighting divisions for their age and belt rank.
Andalusia students brought home nine first place awards. They placed as follows:
• Allen Butler — first place in youth black belt kata and weapons;
• Kila Owens — first place in yellow belt weapons, kata and fighting;
• Dalton Spears — second place in brown belt weapons and kata, and first place in brown belt fighting;
• Taj Patel — first place in brown belt musical kata, and fourth place in brown belt kata;
• Landon Caldwell — first place in green belt weapons and kata, and second place in green belt fighting;
• Konner Owens — second place in yellow belt weapons, kata and fighting.
Andalusia will be hosting the 16th annual South Alabama Karate Open tournament on Sat., June 7, at Straughn High School.
Schools from all over the Southeastern United States are slated to attend.
In last year’s tournament, 20 different martial arts schools attended.
