Pleasant Home’s Brianna Dozier hit a walk-off single to score Sissy Martin in the bottom of the seventh to help lift the Lady Eagles to a 4-3 victory over Florala on Saturday morning.
The Lady Wildcats held a 3-0 lead until the sixth inning, where PHS cut it to two with one run.
That one run was all the Lady Eagles needed to get the momentum going in the seventh, where they put together three timely hits, including Dozier’s, to score three runs and win the Class 1A, Area 3 championship.
Tami Hilson scored off of an Anna Bulger hit to cut the game to one run. Bulger later came around off of Martin’s hit to tie the game at 3-3.
Florala’s Lily Ritzel struck out seven and walked two in the loss.
Bailea Rickett scored in the first inning to help FHS take an early 1-0 lead.
The Lady Wildcats added two runs in the sixth when Ritzel and Amber Johnson crossed the plate.
Pleasant Home’s Cassidy Godwin scored in the sixth inning.
During the area tournament at PHS, Rickett joins Hilary Carver of Prattville and Shanice Hubbard of Parrish as having recorded 52 stolen bases in one season.
Ritzel joins Kristy Roberts, Jessica Ganus and Tonje Willis to record seven stolen bases in a single game.
