PHS tourney
Opp’s Lady Bobcats finished runner up at Pleasant Home’s annual softball tournament Saturday at the Dwight Mikel Sports Complex in Andalusia.
Throughout the day, which saw games starting at 9 a.m. after play was canceled because of Friday’s rain, the Lady Bobcats played well, especially in the championship game, OHS coach Jimmy Reeves said.
OHS ended up falling 2-0 to Brantley in the championship game that helped highlight two good pitching performances from Katlynn Schively and Alex Wilcox.
“We played probably as good as we’ve played in any other game,” Reeves said. “Even in that last game, when we lost. They have a tremendous pitcher. She is just tremendous.”
So good, that the Lady Bobcats only tallied two hits against Brantley’s Wilcox.
Schively also pitched a two-hitter as well.
“They just got the one that fell in at the right time,” Reeves said. “That was the difference. They’ve got a really good team.”
OHS finished as the No. 1 seed coming out of Pool B after it beat Goshen and Elba.
“Overall, it was a really good day,” Reeves said.
The Lady Eagles beat Elba 5-4 in bracket play on their last at bat, and then fell 2-1 to BHS in the semifinals.
“It was a good game,” PHS coach Bradley Stephens said. “Our defense played real well.”
Stephens said his girls also played well all weekend.
Andalusia fell to Goshen in the first round of bracket play.
Florala fell to the Lady Bobcats 4-1 in the first round of bracket play.
