March Madness is upon us!

Ah yes, March Madness is about to be upon us.
Selection Sunday is a mere three days away and some conference basketball championships will be decided in less time.
This is the only time that I watch college basketball, really, other than watching or listening to an occasional Alabama or Troy game.
This is when it gets fun and exciting.
This is when no one surely knows who will be the cinderella team.
The college basketball playoffs, which was expanded to its current 68-team field recently, is probably more exciting, to me, than watching college football in bowl season.
It’s constant action all the time on networks pining to get games to their viewers.
The first round of the NCAA tournament is March 18-19 at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The second through third rounds are March 20-22 at various places along the east/west coasts and midwest.
Then, it’s regional time.
The regionals secure teams berths in the National Semifinals April 5 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Getting to this point in the tournament may be unpredictable, but is also hard.
About three years ago, the regionals were being held at the New Orleans Arena at Tulane University.
I was down in NOLA for a family friend’s wedding — had a great time — and while riding back to Fairhope so I could hop in my car to get back to Andalusia, I fell asleep in the car.
During my slumber, I could hear the radio commentator talking about the game that was unfolding in front of his eyes.
The shear excitement he exhibited while calling each and every possession on floor was addicting.
In and out of consciousness, I’d pick up screams and intense play calls by the announcer, whose name escapes me.
It was almost maddening. See what I did there?
From then on out and after the car ride back to Andalusia, I was hooked on the tournament and have been since.
I’m looking forward to this year’s tournament and can’t wait to see and hear the action that will unfold in front of me.
