Authorities are asking local residents to be on the lookout for an autistic three-year-old child abducted today just before noon from a Burger King in Crestview, Fla.
Crestview Police Department Lt. Andrew Schneider told The Star-News Emmanuel Menz was abducted at approximately 11:15 by his parents, 50-year-old Karl R. Menz and 49-year-old Virginia M. Lynch, who do not have custodial rights.
Schneider said the incident occurred during a supervised visit with COPE, a subcontractor for FamiliesFirst Network, which provides foster care and related services locally.
“The supervisor stepped into the bathroom, and they took off with him,” Schneider said, adding it is important that residents in the Andalusia area and beyond also be on the lookout for the couple.
“Usually, when we send out a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert or an Amber alert, it is for an area of about 500 miles,” he said. “There are several circumstance that can occur, so the response can be particularly fluid, because we don’t know what they may do, or what direction they could travel in.”
According to information provided by CPD, the couple may be traveling in a 2009 Dodge Caravan, possibly tan in color, with Florida tag J47 FXH that may have expired in 2011.
Police are also working to obtain video of the vehicle from local businesses in order to determine what direction they are traveling in. Authorities said it is important to remember the child is autistic and may not be able to speak clearly.
Anyone who sees or has any information on the suspects is asked to call 911 immediately, or contact CPD at 850.682.2055.
