Florala played a good game against Pleasant Home Tuesday night, but the Lady Eagles were just a little bit better in a 29-15 area road win.

The Lady Wildcats stepped up their pressure during the contest to force PHS to turn the ball over and miss shots.

However, the Lady Eagles built a 6-2 lead after the first period and led 12-4 at halftime, thanks to a good inside game in the paint.

“We got through the press, but we missed the layups,” PHS coach Jerry Davis said about the late-game full-court pressure. “I just felt like they played harder than we did. We’re not exactly a scoring machine. We have nights like this. We missed a bunch of layups.

“I’m proud to get out of here (with a win),” he said. “It’s a big rivalry game. I give them credit for it. They played a little harder than we did.”

Pleasant Home’s Jade Self got a jumper to go to cut it to 8-2 in the start of the second period.

Florala’s Keadra Avan then made a jumper to answer Self and make it 8-4.

Brianna Dozier made to foul shots and Cassidy Godwin shot a jumper to end the scoring early in the second period.

PHS was looking for an inside man in the paint, but the Lady Wildcats’ zone scheme said otherwise.

It was a back-and forth game for the first three minutes of the third period, where the Lady Eagles forced a FHS timeout.

Ashley Williamson, a senior, made a 3-pointer for the Lady Eagles to push the lead to 19-8.

Florala’s Lyndsee Edwards, also a senior who was recognized with teammate Hailey Maxey for senior night, got a jumper to make it 23-10 at the end of the third period.

Florala’s Mya James started the scoring going in the fourth period as the Lady Wildcats didn’t quit until the final buzzer.

FHS coach Troy Stewart said the girls didn’t slow down enough to play their game.

“If we kept pushing the ball, we were running (Pleasant Home’s) game,” Stewart said. “I wanted them to play our game and keep it slow-paced. We’re not quick enough to win like that. I try to teach them patience is the key.”

Williamson led PHS with 14 points. Self added 9 points.

Edwards had 7 for FHS.

Pleasant Home hosts Geneva County for senior night on Friday, while FHS visits Kinston.
