One person was killed Tuesday morning in Opp after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Ala. Hwy. 299 and Co. Rd. 22.
According to Opp Police Chief Michael McDonald, 85-year-old Martha W. Lunsford, of Coffee County, was killed just after 10 a.m. when the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier she was traveling in collided with a Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck driven by 21-year-old Brandon James Johnson of Covington County.
Lunsford was pronounced dead on the scene by Covington County Coroner Norman Hobson.
Johnson was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital and released.
McDonald said preliminary results of the investigation indicated Lunsford may have failed to stop at the intersection.
“At this point it appears to have been just a very unfortunate accident,” McDonald said.
The crash remains under investigation.
