Pleasant Home and Straughn split in doubleheader action last night at PHS.
SHS won the first mach 2-1 (18-25, 26-24, 15-12), and PHS claimed the night cap 2-1 (16-25, 25-22, 15-7).
In each of the last two sets of their first match, the Lady Eagles held big leads at 24-21 and 12-9, respectively, before SHS came back strong.
With their second-match victory, the Lady Eagles improved to 18-7, which breaks the school’s record for most wins in its short history.
“They were excited about it,” PHS volleyball coach Jerry Davis said about the win. “There was some really good volleyball tonight. It was a good night for it.”
SHS volleyball coach Daniel Rodgers said for three to four sets, the girls played “some of the best volleyball we’ve played.”
“We got to learn to be consistent and learn to have confidence in our game and in our ability, and not let things get to us,” Rodgers said. “Pleasant Home’s got a great team. They’re tremendously coached. We knew they were going to get after us.”
Rodgers said the girls accepted the challenge of overcoming those early deficits well.
“They don’t quit,” he said.
In other volleyball action, Opp swept Elba 25-6, 25-12, 25-6 to finish the regular season with a 23-5 overall record.
Red Level fell to Luverne 15-25, 25-21, 25-27, 24-26 to finish the regular season without a match win. The Lady Tigers have won games, but didn’t win a match this season.
