JULIA ‘JUDY’ WALL DONALDSON
Julia “Judy” Wall Donaldson, 69, born on Aug. 2, 1943, in Troy, passed away on July 15, 2013.
A memorial service will be held today, Thurs., July 25, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Opp, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Alabama/North Florida Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of one’s choice.
She attended Chapman High School (1957-1961) in Apalachicola, Fla., and MacArthur State Tech (1966) in Opp. She was a resident of Opp for more than 48 years, where she retired from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs. She loved to be able to help those who served our country. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Opp and the Business Professional Women’s Club of Opp. She loved her family, home and community. She will be forever remembered for her bright smile and a can-do attitude.
She is survived by her son, Mark Howze of Port St. Joe, Fla.; stepchildren David Donaldson of Aberdeen, N.C., Tracie and Bryan Williams of Littleton, Colo., and Christie and Andy Solomon of Atlanta; and grandchildren, Chloe Donaldson and Micah and Asher Solomon.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Donaldson, and parents Elmer and Elvester Wall.
MARY ANN COPE
Mary Ann Cope, 78, of Andalusia, died Wed., July 17, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Fri., July 19, at 10:30 a.m., from the First Baptist Church of Andalusia with the Rev. John Foster officiating and interment following in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the service.
She was born in and raised in Auburn. She moved to Andalusia in 1959 and had been a resident since that time. Although she was a retired homemaker and a stay-at-home mother, she was involved in her community and church during those years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. She was the first female juror in Covington County and was one of the first female jurors to serve on the Covington County grand jury. She and Mrs. Jill Little were co-chairs of the “Fob James for Governor” campaign when then-governor Fob James was running for re-election. Because of her involvement with his campaign, she was instrumental in the appointments of some of Covington County’s previous judges. She was a huge Auburn fan and was proud of the fact that her son and grandson played football for the Auburn Tigers.
Survivors include her husband, C.P. “Charley” Cope of Andalusia; two sons and daughters in law, Lucky and Felicia Cope of Andalusia and Tony and Carol Cope of Auburn; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Shane Lord of Opp; six grandchildren and their spouses, Joe and Kathryn Cope, Bricken and Skylar Cope, Preston Cope, Ella Grace Cope, Abby and Cory Wiggins and Carrie Burgess; two great-grandchildren, Cuba Wiggins and Shayna Wiggins; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Don Lawrence of Auburn; and a sister-in-law Emma Jean Gray.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kendrick Gray.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Joe Cope, Bricken Cope, Preston Cope, Cory Wiggins, Chuck Studstill and John Studstill.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Galilean Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church.
Flowers or memorials to the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranches or the First Baptist Church Renovation Fund will be accepted.
