An Opp man is behind bars after allegedly abusing his 8-year-old daughter in Crenshaw County.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said his department’s criminal investigation unit was contacted Monday by the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources about the incident.
“The incident reportedly occurred at an Opp home over the weekend during the father’s child visitation,” McDonald said. “On Tuesday, the investigation revealed the incident occurred on that Friday.”
McDonald did not specify how the child was allegedly abused, but he did say the father, 37-year-old Shannon Dwaine Tyson, was charged with the torture and willful abuse of a child.
Tyson was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond.
McDonald said the case remains under investigation.
