Pleasant Home wasn’t in a real hurry Friday night.
The Eagles’ slow approach netted a 63-47 Class 1A, Area 2 semifinal victory over Kinston, and the right to play in the area tournament championship against Geneva County.
“We just kind of didn’t get in any real hurry,” PHS coach Jerry Davis said. “That’s what kind of got us our lead. We ran the first half and got some cheap baskets in the second half.
“We kind of slowed the tempo down,” he said.
Kinston went on to outscore PHS 29-28 in the second half.
With this win, PHS will face GCHS, who beat Florala 73-50, on Monday night to see who will host the sub regional round. The Eagles are guaranteed at least two games.
Lance Davis led PHS with 31 points and was 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Jon Cole Chesser had a season-high 14 points.
“It’s good to start seeing him come around for us,” Davis said about Chesser.
Troy Fantroy added eight points and grabbed a whopping 12 rebounds a day after being sick.
“He sat out the whole second period of the game,” Davis said. “He did a pretty nice job right there.”
Davis said the team lives to play again.
“That’s all that matters at this point in time,” he said.
The tournament championship tip off Monday night is at 6.
