Pleasant Home edged Geneva County 52-50 Tuesday night to win the Class 1A, Area 2 crown.
“We trapped them there at the end and we got a couple steals and just kind of survived it,” Eagles coach Jerry Davis said. “It was a back and forth game all the way through. We just ended up two more than they did.”
One crucial steal came at the end of the game, where Pleasant Home’s Tim Veasey got the grab and secured the ball to hang on for the win.
With this victory, PHS won the right to host the area tournament. The Eagles will host Florala on Friday night.
“That’s the biggest thing about tonight,” Davis said. “(The win) lets us host the tournament.”
Lance Davis scored two points than his previous best game this season with 45. Ty Hammett and Jon Cole Chesser had eight points each to pace PHS.
In girls action, Geneva County pulled out a 48-45 win over the Lady Eagles in what was the best effort by her girls she’s seen this season, PHS coach Kelley Garner said.
GCHS led 12-11 after the first period, where PHS guard Ashley Williamson scored five of her team’s points.
The Lady Bulldogs led 23-20 at halftime.
Pleasant Home came out on fire in the third period, outscoring GCHS 19-8.
“Everybody contributed,” Garner said about the third period. “We played great defense. We played aggressive. We dominated the boards the entire game.
“Our effort was outstanding tonight,” she said. “This game was a great motivation to carry us into the area tournament.”
Raven Woods led PHS with 16 points. Williamson added 10 points.
PHS falls to 11-7 overall, and 3-2 in the area.
