Residents want prosperity in Opp

Dear Editor:
I want to bring some stuff to your attention about Opp’s District 4, which many of you may have read about.
But I want to give my point of view. I’m upset because of this new committee because I feel this committee is overriding the community and our councilwoman.
If we must have a committee, why not allow all of District 4 a vote and make it a requirement to be a resident of the district.
There are two on the committee currently who do not live in District 4.
I believe whoever we elect to the committee should have a background check and be a law-abiding citizen.
I am also concerned because our district is the only one with this type of committee.
I believe that ultimately the majority of District 4 just wants what’s best for our children and grandchildren.
We want to organize a community meeting to help put a stop to the drug use I n our community.
One of the main things we can do is keep Hardin Street Complex closed by 10:30 p.m. every night like the ex-mayor had it.
We want to have this meeting and invite our drug task force and Opp Police Department to come. We want to work together to combat this problem so that our children can be successful.
We also want to address the gambling issue on Hardin Street.
We want to clean up our community and have a respectful community.
All District 4 residents want is to be treated fairly and have a prosperous community.
Thanks
Julia Crittenden
