Covington County voters on Tuesday defeated an amendment that would have increased court fees by $9 on each case.

The measure, which would have provided funds for the county’s law library, failed by 88 votes, 5,321 to 5,233.

State Rep. Mike Jones (R-Andalusia) explained last month that the amendment would have increased local fees from $3 to $12.
